11:1 | [kjv] | And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. |
| [bbe] | And all the earth had one language and one tongue. |
11:2 | [kjv] | And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. |
| [bbe] | And it came about that in their wandering from the east, they came to a stretch of flat country in the land of Shinar, and there they made their living-place. |
11:3 | [kjv] | And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. |
| [bbe] | And they said one to another, Come, let us make bricks, burning them well. And they had bricks for stone, putting them together with sticky earth. |
11:4 | [kjv] | And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. |
| [bbe] | And they said, Come, let us make a town, and a tower whose top will go up as high as heaven; and let us make a great name for ourselves, so that we may not be wanderers over the face of the earth. |
11:5 | [kjv] | And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. |
| [bbe] | And the Lord came down to see the town and the tower which the children of men were building. |
11:6 | [kjv] | And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. |
| [bbe] | And the Lord said, See, they are all one people and have all one language; and this is only the start of what they may do: and now it will not be possible to keep them from any purpose of theirs. |
11:7 | [kjv] | Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. |
| [bbe] | Come, let us go down and take away the sense of their language, so that they will not be able to make themselves clear to one another. |
11:8 | [kjv] | So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. |
| [bbe] | So the Lord God sent them away into every part of the earth: and they gave up building their town. |
11:9 | [kjv] | Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. |
| [bbe] | So it was named Babel, because there the Lord took away the sense of all languages and from there the Lord sent them away over all the face of the earth. |

11:16 | [kjv] | And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg: |
| [bbe] | And Eber was thirty-four years old when he became the father of Peleg: |
11:17 | [kjv] | And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters. |
| [bbe] | And after the birth of Peleg, Eber went on living for four hundred and thirty years, and had sons and daughters: |
11:18 | [kjv] | And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu: |
| [bbe] | And Peleg was thirty years old when he became the father of Reu: |
11:19 | [kjv] | And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters. |
| [bbe] | And after the birth of Reu, Peleg went on living for two hundred and nine years, and had sons and daughters: |
11:20 | [kjv] | And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug: |
| [bbe] | And Reu was thirty-two years old when he became the father of Serug: |
11:21 | [kjv] | And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters. |
| [bbe] | And after the birth of Serug, Reu went on living for two hundred and seven years, and had sons and daughters: |
11:22 | [kjv] | And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor: |
| [bbe] | And Serug was thirty years old when he became the father of Nahor: |
11:23 | [kjv] | And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. |
| [bbe] | And after the birth of Nahor, Serug went on living for two hundred years, and had sons and daughters: |
11:24 | [kjv] | And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah: |
| [bbe] | And Nahor was twenty-nine years old when he became the father of Terah: |
11:25 | [kjv] | And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters. |

| [bbe] | And Terah was seventy years old when he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. |
11:27 | [kjv] | Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. |
| [bbe] | These are the generations of Terah: Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot. |
11:28 | [kjv] | And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. |
| [bbe] | And death came to Haran when he was with his father Terah in the land of his birth, Ur of the Chaldees. |
11:29 | [kjv] | And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. |
| [bbe] | And Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah. |
11:30 | [kjv] | But Sarai was barren; she had no child. |
| [bbe] | And Sarai had no child. |
11:31 | [kjv] | And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. |
| [bbe] | And Terah took Abram, his son, and Lot, the son of Haran, and Sarai, his daughter-in-law, the wife of his son Abram and they went out from Ur of the Chaldees, to go to the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran, and were there for some time. |
