John

16:1	[kjv]	These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
	[bbe]	I have said these things to you so that you may not be in doubt.
16:2	[kjv]	They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
	[bbe]	They will put you out of the Synagogues: yes, the time is coming when whoever puts you to death will have the belief that he is doing God's pleasure.
16:3	[kjv]	And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
	[bbe]	They will do these things to you because they have not had knowledge of the Father or of me.
16:4	[kjv]	But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
	[bbe]	I have said these things to you so that when the time comes, what I have said may come to your mind. I did not say them to you at the first, because then I was still with you.
16:5	[kjv]	But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
	[bbe]	But now I am going to him who sent me; and not one of you says to me, Where are you going?
16:6	[kjv]	But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
	[bbe]	But your hearts are full of sorrow because I have said these things.
16:7	[kjv]	Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
	[bbe]	But what I am saying is true: my going is for your good: for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
16:8	[kjv]	And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
	[bbe]	And he, when he comes, will make the world conscious of sin, and of righteousness, and of being judged:
16:9	[kjv]	Of sin, because they believe not on me;
	[bbe]	Of sin, because they have not faith in me;
16:10	[kjv]	Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
	[bbe]	Of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you will see me no more;
16:11	[kjv]	Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
	[bbe]	Of being judged, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
16:12	[kjv]	I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
	[bbe]	I have still much to say to you, but you are not strong enough for it now.
16:13	[kjv]	Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
	[bbe]	However, when he, the Spirit of true knowledge, has come, he will be your guide into all true knowledge: for his words will not come from himself, but whatever has come to his hearing, that he will say: and he will make clear to you the things to come.
16:14	[kjv]	He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
	[bbe]	He will give me glory, because he will take of what is mine, and make it clear to you.
16:15	[kjv]	All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
	[bbe]	Everything which the Father has is mine: that is why I say, He will take of what is mine and will make it clear to you.
16:16	[kjv]	A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
	[bbe]	After a little time you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me.
16:17	[kjv]	Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
	[bbe]	So some of the disciples said one to another, What is this he is saying, After a little time, you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me? and, I am going to the Father?
16:18	[kjv]	They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.
	[bbe]	So they said again and again, What is this he is saying, A little time? His words are not clear to us.
16:19	[kjv]	Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
	[bbe]	Jesus saw that they had a desire to put the question to him, so he said to them, Is this what you are questioning one with another, why I said, After a little time, you will see me no longer; and then again, after a little time, you will see me?
16:20	[kjv]	Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
	[bbe]	Truly I say to you, You will be weeping and sorrowing, but the world will be glad: you will be sad, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
16:21	[kjv]	A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
	[bbe]	When a woman is about to give birth she has sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she has given birth to the child, the pain is put out of her mind by the joy that a man has come into the world.
16:22	[kjv]	And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
	[bbe]	So you have sorrow now: but I will see you again, and your hearts will be glad, and no one will take away your joy.
16:23	[kjv]	And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
	[bbe]	And on that day you will put no questions to me. Truly I say to you, Whatever request you make to the Father, he will give it to you in my name.
16:24	[kjv]	Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
	[bbe]	Up to now you have made no request in my name: do so, and it will be answered, so that your hearts may be full of joy.
16:25	[kjv]	These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
	[bbe]	All this I have said to you in veiled language: but the time is coming when I will no longer say things in veiled language but will give you knowledge of the Father clearly.
16:26	[kjv]	At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
	[bbe]	In that day you will make requests in my name: and I do not say that I will make prayer to the Father for you,
16:27	[kjv]	For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
	[bbe]	For the Father himself gives his love to you, because you have given your love to me and have had faith that I came from God.
16:28	[kjv]	I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
	[bbe]	I came out from the Father and have come into the world: again, I go away from the world and go to the Father.
16:29	[kjv]	His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
	[bbe]	His disciples said, Now you are talking clearly and not in veiled language.
16:30	[kjv]	Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
	[bbe]	Now we are certain that you have knowledge of all things and have no need for anyone to put questions to you: through this we have faith that you came from God.
16:31	[kjv]	Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
	[bbe]	Jesus made answer, Have you faith now?
16:32	[kjv]	Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
	[bbe]	See, a time is coming, yes, it is now here, when you will go away in all directions, every man to his house, and I will be by myself: but I am not by myself, because the Father is with me.
16:33	[kjv]	These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
	[bbe]	I have said all these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble: but take heart! I have overcome the world.
