1:1[kjv] Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,
   [bbe] Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith,
1:2[kjv] And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:
   [bbe] And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house:
1:3[kjv] Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
   [bbe] Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:4[kjv] I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,
   [bbe] I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you,
1:5[kjv] Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;
   [bbe] Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;
1:6[kjv] That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.
   [bbe] That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.
1:7[kjv] For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
   [bbe] For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.
1:8[kjv] Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,
   [bbe] And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right,
1:9[kjv] Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
   [bbe] Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus:
1:10[kjv] I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:
   [bbe] My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains,
1:11[kjv] Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
   [bbe] Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me:
1:12[kjv] Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:
   [bbe] Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart:
1:13[kjv] Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
   [bbe] Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place:
1:14[kjv] But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.
   [bbe] But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart.
1:15[kjv] For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;
   [bbe] For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever;
1:16[kjv] Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
   [bbe] No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord.
1:17[kjv] If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
   [bbe] If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself.
1:18[kjv] If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;
   [bbe] If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account.
1:19[kjv] I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
   [bbe] I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life.
1:20[kjv] Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.
   [bbe] So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ.
1:21[kjv] Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
   [bbe] Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say.
1:22[kjv] But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
   [bbe] And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.
1:23[kjv] There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
   [bbe] Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love;
1:24[kjv] Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
   [bbe] And so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my brother-workers.
1:25[kjv] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
   [bbe] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So be it.
