REFERENCE CHRISTMAS STORY - JESUS' BIRTH
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Isaiah 9:6-7 [9:6] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace . [9:7] Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 11:1-5 [11:1] And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: [11:2] And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; [11:3] And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: [11:4] But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. [11:5] And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
Isaiah 61:1-2 [61:1] The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; [61:2] To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
Jeremiah 23:5-6 [23:5] Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. [23:6] In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS .
Jeremiah 33:15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.
Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
Zechariah 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.
Zechariah 6:12-13 [6:12] And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH ; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: [6:13] Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings ; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Matthew 1:18-25 [1:18] Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. [1:19] Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. [1:20] But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. [1:21] And she shall bring forth a son , and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. [1:22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, [1:23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child , and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. [1:24] Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
See above [1:25] And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Matthew 2:1-18 [2:1] Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, [2:2] Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east , and are come to worship him. [2:3] When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. [2:4] And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. [2:5] And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, [2:6] And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. [2:7] Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
See above [2:8] And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child ; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. [2:9] When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. [2:10] When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. [2:11] And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. [2:12] And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
See above [2:13] And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. [2:14] When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: [2:15] And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. [2:16] Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under , according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men. [2:17] Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, [2:18] In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children , and would not be comforted, because they are not.
See above (Note: in Matthew 2, we have the wise men (not just 3, but maybe more, maybe as many as 50), a star, a house, and a young child. Whereas, in Luke 2, we have a babe, a manger, swaddling clothes, an angel of the Lord, shepherds, and the heavenly host. Note also in Matthew 2, that Harod slew toddler and younger, not just little babies. Harod had commanded to slay all of the children 2 years old and under, giving the impression that Harod felt that the Christ child may have been born many months prior to his mass slaying.)
Luke 2:1-20 [2:1] And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. [2:2] (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) [2:3] And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. [2:4] And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) [2:5] To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. [2:6] And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. [2:7] And she brought forth her firstborn son , and wrapped him in swaddling clothes , and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. [2:8] And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. [2:9] And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
See above [2:10] And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. [2:11] For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. [2:12] And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes , lying in a manger. [2:13] And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, [2:14] Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. [2:15] And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. [2:16] And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. [2:17] And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. [2:18] And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
See above [2:19] But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. [2:20] And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Romans 15:12 And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.
Revelation 2:27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
