REFERENCE GENESIS CHAPTER 3 (NOTES)
Genesis 3:1, 2:16-17 [3:1] Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? (This is what is called "a lie by omission". The serpent did not give the exception of the "tree of the knowlegde of good and evil".) [2:16] And the LORD God commanded the man , saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: [2:17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it : for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. (Notice that this commandment was probably given only to Adam, not to Eve, as she may not have been created yet. Adam would have had to tell Eve of this commandment.)
Genesis 3:3, 2:17 [3:3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it , lest ye die. (God did not say that they should not touch the tree. This is the 2nd lie and it was told by Eve.) [2:17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Genesis 3:4, 2:17 [3:4] And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die : (But God said that they would die! This was the 3rd lie.) [2:17] But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die .
Genesis 3:6, I Timothy 2:14 [Genesis 3:6] And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. [I Timothy 2:14] And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. (God was on the earth.)
Genesis 3:20 [3:20] And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living . (Eve was the mother of "all" living, therefore she was also the mother of Cain's wife.)
Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins , and clothed them. (This may have been the first animal killed, and it was killed by God.)
