REFERENCE WEDDINGS IN THE BIBLE
Genesis 2:18-24 [2:18] And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. [2:19] And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. [2:20] And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. [2:21] And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; [2:22] And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. [2:23] And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. [2:24] Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. (Adam & Eve)
Genesis 29:21-25 [29:21] And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her. [29:22] And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. [29:23] And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her. [29:24] And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid. [29:25] And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?
Mathew 22:2-14 [22:2] The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son, [22:3] And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. [22:4] Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage. [22:5] But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: [22:6] And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. [22:7] But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. [22:8] Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy. [22:9] Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. [22:10] So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
See above [22:11] And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: [22:12] And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. [22:13] Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. [22:14] For many are called, but few are chosen. (Parable of the marriage feast)
Matthew 25:1-13 [25:1] Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins , which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. [25:2] And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. [25:3] They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: [25:4] But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. [25:5] While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. [25:6] And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. [25:7] Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. [25:8] And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. [25:9] But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. [25:10] And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. [25:11] Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
See above [25:12] But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. [25:13] Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. (Parable of the ten virgins)
John 2:1-10 [2:1] And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee ; and the mother of Jesus was there: [2:2] And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. [2:3] And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. [2:4] Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. [2:5] His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. [2:6] And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. [2:7] Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. [2:8] And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. [2:9] When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
See above [2:10] And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
Revelation 19:7-9 [19:7] Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. [19:8] And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. [19:9] And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb . And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
